Nyumbani Bukavu Theatre develops and features the talent, experiences and culture of Congolese people on stage to create a communal space of healing and inspiration for artists and audiences.
A Living Gift To Our People
Through live performances, serene outdoor spaces and a modern facility, Nyumbani Bukavu Theatre will be a home for the arts and a point of cultural pride for generations to come.
Collaborative, community based theater is at the heart of what we do. We are inspired by the ideas of Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed and believe that it is a powerful tool for social change. We aim to empower communities to share their stories and challenge injustice.
In Bukavu, performers can harness a variety of drama techniques to bring stories to life by highlighting issues of conflict, displacement, and resilience. Storytelling not only raises awareness but also fosters collective action, giving voice to those often unheard and creating a space where change begins through performance.
